The Right Touch
At Architectural Traditions, we think there's nothing more beautiful than the warm, silky glow of wood.
That's why we've spent years perfecting our exclusive Rubbed-Oil finish system. The process on which
we base our system has been used for centuries in finishing wood products such as fine furniture, log homes,
and decks. We've taken that process to another level by creating a natural finish in a vast array of colors
- available solid, pickled, or glazed - that will enhance the wood's inherent luster and bring out the beauty
of the grain. To ensure a finish that is practical and easy to maintain as well as beautiful, we apply multiple coats
of oil that soak deep into the wood, so there is no surface film to crack, peel, or blotch. As the oil penetrates
the wood the oil's resins bond to the individual fibers, strengthening and stabilizing them. WIth proper maintenance,
the wood fibers will continue to toughen over time, further reducing the frequency of maintenance.
Choosing the right species of wood for your needs is like choosing the right actor for an important part: each species of wood we
use at Architectural Traditions is like a great actor with particular strengths. If you want a rugged, long-wearing wood, cast
Incense Cedar in a starring role. If you're looking for depth and elegance, consider Mahogany for the part. Then, once you've
selected the species of wood, you're ready to choose the finish and texture that will give you the look you want.
Whether you choose a texture like our Antique Distress for wood that looks as if it's survived 100 years, or a more refined
texture, such as our European Distress, texture is one of the key elements that contributes to the exceptional handcrafted
quality of our wood products.
A final note: each piece that we produce at Architectural Traditions is unique, and looks it. Certain cosmetic details
that might be considered defects in ordinary wood products, such as knots and raised grain highlights, are considered enhancements
in our products and add considerably to their handcrafted beauty and their desirability.
