Windows built to last

Architectural Traditions' founder Mark Butler understands the difference that unique, crafted windows can make to a house. It's one of the reasons he started his own company - so that he could create a distinctive line of solid-wood windows, designed to complement most styles of architecture and engineered to withstand the harshest environments. In an era when many window companies are trying to cut costs by using less wood and substituting synthetic materials, Architectural Traditions has chosen a different path. Our all-wood window has a crafted, Old-World look, feel, and operation, and it's engineered using two of the most dimensionally stable natural woods available: Mahogany and Incense Cedar.

Mahogany has been used for centuries to produce some of the finest furniture and millwork in the world. In the aerospace industry, it's known as "Pattern Grade" Mahogany, because of its tremendous stability - which is why it's the species of wood used for making patterns and templates from which metal parts are formed. Incense Cedar, another wood known for its stability and resistance to decay, has long been used by builders in harsh environments like the desert, where temperature and humidity can vary dramatically in short periods of time. Incense Cedar stands up to these extremes.

From a design point of view, Architectural Traditions offers a range of window options as limitless as your vision. Choose from our series of traditional casements, double-hungs, sliders, geometrics, or our proprietary Homestead series. We also offer French doors that can match your windows. See the Door section for details.

Based on the window type you select, you can choose one of several different screen options, from traditional aluminum-framed to hinged wood-framed screens, and even a disappearing pull-down screen that, when in the "up" position, allows for a totally unobstructed view.

We offer a variety of glass types, from our standard clear dual-glazed annealed to the high-energy-performing Low-E glass. Most of the hardware trim we offer is produced in our in-house foundry, allowing us to control the quality and provide you with several design and finish options. In addition, we can help you select the texture that will create an authentic design look, whether it's Rustic Country, or Old-World, and bring to your home the same kind of crafted quality that hewn timbers or a rock fireplace can provide. We've been perfecting our texturing process for over sixteen years, which is why it's almost impossible for someone in the field to get the same authentic texture that we're able to produce.

The beauty and depth of our fine furniture-quality Rubbed-Oil finish is not typically available from most window manufacturers, and like our textures, it's nearly impossible to achieve in the field. Most finishes applied in the field are done in a matter of minutes; our prefinish process takes us five days to apply.
